Camera Lessons Nikon

Not until just recently did I understand the reasoning behind owning a real actual camera that does not also tweet, take conference calls, text, and play Candy Crush. When I got into blogging I figured my iPhone would suffice for any pictures I need. If a phone is going to cost $599, hell yeah it better take good pictures too. Being more of an analytical mind, blogging was more about writing and structure for me than the visuals. However, the more I get into it, the more my creative, visual side starts to develop.

So, this week I decided to expand my horizons beyond the iPhone and purchase a camera. Not ready for a DSLR yet (I mean I’m still trying to figure out flash on my phone), I purchased a Nikon Coolpix L820. For those photography beginners like myself, this is categorized as a “compact system camera” or the step between a “point-and-shoot” digital camera and a DSLR. I chose this one because of the megapixels, zoom, shooting modes, PRICE, and because my expert photographer brother-in-law said so.

Yesterday, I decided to test out my camera to get the basics down. It was a beautiful day in the the Bay Area, so after work I went to visit my family at the boat in the marina. I’m sure the neighbors really appreciated me standing on the bow of our boat and taking pictures of them like a paparazzi. Then, my brother and I went over to Emeryville to shop around a bit and check out Kevin Hart’s new movie, “Let Me Explain.” A definite must see! I literally thought I was going to stop breathing because I was laughing uncontrollably. Here are some of my test shots.

  1. I grew up in the Bay Area! 😀 and I needed this post. I lost my camera recently and it has definitely impacted my blog images, the iphone just doesn't cut it, even with photoshopping. Is it fairly simple to use??

  2. How cool! Where at? I've just recently moved here and LOVE it. The L820 is absolutely perfect. I've only had it a few days and haven't had any problems figuring out how to use it. I did a lot of research before buying and talked to a lot of photographers who all recommended this camera as a step before the DSLR.
