1. I’m always interested to hear guys talk about what they feel like a girl needs to wear to get their attention. “Oh, if a girl wear J’s, ‘red bottoms’, a hair tie, sweatpants, chills with no makeup on, she’s cool with me.” Oh? That’s nice…Here, Huffington Post has a few fashion tips for YOU as well.

2. Speaking of men and fashion, apparently Justin Bieber shares our sentiment over H&M’s (now universally accessible) monochromatic accessories. Check out the hilarious recount by The Cut of his most recent “brawl” here.

3. With Fall right around the corner now (I’m already dreaming of Starbucks’ pumpkin spice lattes, football games, and all my fave TV shows returning), StyleCaster gives us their much-anticipated Fall Trend Report.

4. On the hunt for a new job? The Boss Mag shares great advice on how to write a standout professional resume.

5. And, staying on the topic of career development, check out Levo League’s list of Career Books Every Young Woman needs to read.

The Princess & The Polka Dot

Kate Middleton blue Polka Dot Jenny Packham dress, florals, outfit of the day, monday, work wear

Well just when I thought Kate Middleton and I couldn’t possibly have one more thing in common, now we both end up wearing polka dots…in the SAME week! The Duchess of Cambridge was a showstopper in this custom Jenny Packham blue polka dot dress as she introduced the future King of England to the world with Prince William Wednesday. I attempted a similar spotted look as I introduced myself to another work week…and a few homeless men I met on the street while taking these photos.

Considering Mondays tend to carry with them an onslaught of unwelcome surprises that leave most of us considering a mid-life crisis by 5pm, I like to offset the day by dressing a little “fancy.” So, despite waking up sick (Monday, much?), I decided a little bit of sequins, polka dots, and metallics were the perfect antidote for this already eventful day. I truly believe wearing sequins is a protective shield to bad days. Trust me, it works.

On Sunday’s Floraled post I highlighted a few ways to experiment with floral prints. If you want to wear a bold top or skirt, you don’t have to pair it with a solid. Stripes or polka dots make a great “base” to match with a more vibrant floral print. The best part about developing your own personal style is knowing that it’s okay to break some fashion “rules.” In this case, mixing prints.

Friday Favorites: Egotistical & Skinny

It’s Friday, it’s the 1st day of Summer, Lebron “ain’t got no worries”, and somebody somewhere named their baby after an intersection. Here are my favorite links of the week!
1. In my “ego is larger than this world yet I try to justify it with self comparisons references to God” news, we all (with the exception of this new crop of Heat fans that arose…yesterday) sullenly watched as Lebron James and the Heat won the NBA Finals…again. Oh, and Kanye released the self-titled album, Yeezus. The album is decent, but The Man Repeller’s breakdown of the lyrics into terms us peasants can understand is better. — Yeezus Says.
2. Enough with the ego-mania? Here are 42 people much more deserving of your attention this Friday – 42 People You Won’t Believe Actually Exist
3. If your boss is upset that you’ve spent more time reading this post than getting any actual work done, show them this and thank me later – 8 Ways Goofing Off Can Actually Make You More Productive
4. Its summer, its hot, and I can think of 25 things I’d rather do than work out in the gym. That’s what January is for, right? If you’ve lost your motivation to workout, there’s still hope. Meet: The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Getting Toned.
5. Since I’m in my 112th week of physical therapy for my achilles tendon with no hope of being allowed to ever see the inside of a gym until the Winter, I like to drink flavored water that makes me feel skinny instead. Here are 25 Flat Belly Sassy Water Recipes. Not sure what’s sassy about water, but if it makes me look good, I’ll take it.

Happy Friday from Cali!

2013 CFDA Fashion Awards

The CFDA Fashion Awards were held last night at the Lincoln Center in New York City and fashion mavens from across the country stormed the red carpet en masse and dressed to impress. An annual celebration within the fashion industry, the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Awards recognizes exemplary style and remarkable work in all facets of the industry. The recipients of these coveted awards are true icons of the fashion world. Some of the past winners include Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Michelle Obama, Ralph Lauren, Brian Atwood, and Miuccia Prada just to name a few. To put the true breadth of this event into scope, CFDA Chief Executive Officer, Steve Kolb, notes, “There is no other event that puts the spotlight on American Fashion like the CFDA awards.”
It wouldn’t be one of the key fashion events of the season, if it wasn’t chocked full of red carpet moments that made the Oscars look like a Sears mall fashion show circa 1992. See below to find out who took home the evenings’ awards and who shined the brightest on the red carpet. Who tops your best dressed list?
