Parisian Jumpsuit

Rarely one to follow trends, I must admit that I have fallen madly in love with pale pinks and neutrals this season. In fact, I find myself often opting for head-to-toe neutral looks that err on the side of enhancing beautifully crafted cut and texture versus making a bold color-blocking statement. This invokes the effortless parisian chic look that has been at the forefront of fashion.

With the conclusion of Paris Fashion Week, I am inspired by this upcoming season’s modern twist on this carefree parisian style. The merger of this French aesthetic and the jumpsuit, something I never expected to wear so frequently, is refreshing.

Today I’m revisiting our recent trip to Tahoe and this more low key version of the object of my current sartorial affection. This jumpsuit made for the perfect outfit to cruise around the lake and enjoy time with my family. And the fact that it has pockets really is the cherry on top of the icing. Pair this look up with a wide grey grommet or metallic belt and sleek, strappy heels for a day-to-night transition!

Sunday Best: Runway to Real Way

Last Friday Fashion Week jetted across the pond for shows in Milan and London with Paris to follow. Designers best known for making a major impact in the couture world let us in on their vision for Spring/Summer 2014. In London, designers including Christopher Kane and Burberry offered feminine, delicate collections chocked full of lace, full skirts, florals, and pastels. In Milan, we were graced with the likes of heavy-hitters such as Prada, Tom Ford, Fendi, and Gucci who sent statement-making pieces down the runway with looks meant to be heard.

Check out the runway looks from a few of my favorite shows with my take on how to rock this look the real way (read: less pricey way).

The Minimalist

Clover Canyon New York Fashion Week, NYFW Spring Trends, LA brands showing at fashion week, abstract prints for spring, Redken 5th Avenue fashion shows

In an arena where circus-like ensembles reign supreme aka New York Fashion Week, the Clover Canyon presentation was a breath of fresh air. While the SoCal brand is known for their abstract prints, the Spring/Summer collection put the power of the silhouette in the hands of the futuristically-structured clothing. Lightweight fabrics from organza to perforated neoprene captured the essence of the California girl where, in terms of clothing, less is always more.

What stood out most about the overall aesthetic was the juxtaposition of glowing makeup and 50s minimalists hairstyles on light luxe prints. Thanks to Redken 5th Avenue, I was able to go backstage with the leading stylists of their flagship salon, Cutler, and get tips and tricks on how this look was created.

Make Up: The overall look was that of the fresh-faced all American girl.

Get the Look:

1. Apply The Sensual Skin Enhancer all over to create a radiant base. Mix with a pea-sized amount of Soleil de la Mar to get that extra bit of glow we often need in the winter.

2. To illuminate the eyes, apply Kevyn Aucoin loose shimmer shadow from crease to lid. Then, use the Flesh Tone Lip Pencil (I like blossom or Cerise) to line top lid. Finally, apply essential mascara on bottom lashes only.

3. For rosy cheeks, I swear by (as in you never catch me without this stuff) Chanel Creme Blush. All you need is a few dabs on the apples of your cheeks.

4. To get that perfectly pink pout, apply matte lip color in timeless and top off with lipgloss in Reyna only on the middle of the lip.

1. Secure front section of hair in a top knot and section off a thin strip of hair on either  side of the temples to be french braided towards mid-crown.

2. Blow dry and straighten remaining sections. Then, tease and slick back front section of hair layer by layer.
  • Tip: I like to use a bit of Redken Wax Blast to get that slicked back look while still maintaining volume.
3. Finish off with Redken Forceful 23 for maximum hold and to keep the look in place throughout the day.

Sunday Best

With fashion week now in full swing, designers have given us a taste of what to expect for Spring. So far the forecast looks sunny and chocked full of deconstructed glam (BCBG), 90s hip-hop chic (Alexander Wang), and feminine elegance (Monique Lhuillier). Out of the first 3 days of shows, my favorites have been BCBG MAXAZRIA, Marissa Webb, Zimmerman, Suno, Prabal Gurung, Rebecca Taylor, Jill Stuart, and Alexander Wang…just to name a few.

We will have to wait a few months before these collections hit stores, however, we can still rock their Fall/Winter collections that caused the same mass hysteria during February’s fashion week. Here are some of my favorites pieces from their current collections:

1. BCBG MAXAZRIA – The Riley Dress
