Last Sunday started with one of those perfectly still mornings. The streets were clear (a rarity here), the wind was only a slight breeze, and the weather cool, but bearable. Andrew and I took a drive through Pacific Heights and it seemed like all the flowers had sprung overnight. A promising sign after years in drought!
We got out and walked through the neighborhood admiring the impressive homes. Also, I’d be lying if I didn’t mention I was trying to get my Fitbit steps up on a usually sedentary Sunday. Taking these walks through Pac Heights is something we love to do. Each time I’m amazed at intricate design of each of the homes, it’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Even more beautiful are the flowers that bloom across the trellises adorning many of the homes. The outside of the homes are literally covered in these flowers!
This Ted Baker skirt was made just for days like these. This season, I love pairing textured tops with a floral bottoms to add a bit of dimension to the look. If you have a statement jacket, layer it to enhance the look even more. This green coat is one of my favorites because it evokes a classic Kate Middleton feel. With many jackets going on sale now, check out a few other options here, here, and here.
One of my staple outfits this Winter has been ripped jeans and a body suit. Really, ripped jeans and anything. I’m a firm believer in investing in well-cut, quality basics because you obviously get the most wear out of them. Ironically, in the year 2016, jeans covered in holes are considered a “quality staple”!
But, the best part of staple items is that you can layer them with your more extravagant or fun pieces. I have a slight obsession with jackets that make a statement and boast interesting details (see exhibit A and B). I picked this jacket up at Forever 21 when attending my first New York Fashion Week a few years ago. It channels the 80s vibe, which I’m clearly feeling right now with the body suit, and is the perfect layering jacket for a day-to-night look in San Francisco. This particular one is sold out, but I’ve linked a few others that I love above.
This year’s birthday has been one of my favorites yet. I speak as if it’s ongoing, because in my family we celebrate the birthday month. In place of one big blowout bash, we’ll usually do small get togethers with friends and family throughout the month.
To kick-off my 29 days of celebrating 29 years, Andrew and I took a trip down to LA. Surprisingly, LA is new territory for us. I usually only go for work and Andrew had never been. We stayed at the Beverly Hilton and focused most of our visit on the surrounding area, with a few pit stops in Santa Monica and Downtown LA. The Grammys were taking place that weekend, and our hotel was actually hosting Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party. The energy was high and it was kind of fun to spot celebrities around as this is a rarity in San Francisco.
We’re basically becoming pros at packing as much as possible into a weekend getaway (see DC Trip), and LA was no exception. A few of our favorites places on our visit were: Runyon Canyon, Mr. Chow’s, Wally’s in Beverly Hills, Craig’s for the cocktails, and shopping in West Hollywood. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!
These pants are my new obsession! As a short-ish chic, I usually shy away from anything long and wide-legged. But I got a little brave, decided to try on these pants at Nordstrom, and instantly fell in love. With the right platform shoe (becoming hugely popular this season btw), these pants fit perfect. And nothing says Birthday/Valentine’s weekend in LA, like a sweet little off the shoulder blush top.
A very happy Friday because today’s MY BIRTHDAY! Growing up, my mom always made my whole birthday week (month even) feel like such a celebration. Being that it’s around Valentine’s Day, there were always heart-shaped candles, heart-shaped red velvet cake, little gift baskets, pink and red balloons, confetti…everywhere. No matter what my Valentine status was, it was always a celebration!
This weekend, I’m taking off on a quick getaway to Los Angeles to do just that. It was a toss up between braving the icy roads to Tahoe or enjoying the warm weather in LA – LA for the win!
Wishing you all a fun Valentine’s, or Galentine’s, weekend!
Perhaps you’re in a similar camp to me today and donning all black and big sunglasses to mourn the Panthers’ Super Bowl loss. Or, your big sunnies are covering up remnants of a Broncos’ celebration – lucky you! Either way, black on black is always a winner.
I found this shirt a few weeks back and have been living it every since. Seriously. It pays homage to my actual father, Karl, as well as the father of fashion, Karl Lagerfeld. I feel confident that it was made with me in mind! I’m rocking it this Monday to kick off a major week that happens to encompass both my birthday and Fashion Week! It’s a packed week ahead and then we’re headed off to LA for the weekend. Stay tuned for more birthday celebrations!
