Happy Labor Day, babes! Hope you all are enjoying the long weekend, whether you’re on a vacation or staycation (as I am :). We actually got Friday AND Monday off and it couldn’t have come at a better time as the past few weeks have been intense, to say the least.

With a busy as things have been lately, it was nice to take a few days to literally do nothing! Sometimes I get a bit overwhelmed with thinking of all the things I should be doing on my time off, that I forget how important it is to give yourself room to breathe and allow yourself freedom from the “To Do” list.

On Saturday we took the ferry up to Sausalito (a first since I’ve lived here) to check out downtown Sausalito and the arts festival. This was the perfect outfit for the festival because it felt so bright and colorful amongst all the paintings. This top is one of my favorites, especially for the mercurially warm days here, because it’s lightweight enough to layer over a tank and looks just as good tied around your waist. And, this red bucket bag is just the right amount of flair to make any look pop!

I’ve always loved the steel and brick warehouse aesthetic.

This is one of the reasons I have fallen in love with the “Dogpatch” neighborhood. Living in a city built around shipping ports, it’s so interesting to cruise through the brick streets and check out some of the old warehouses. As a transplant to SF, I’ve become fascinated with these ports and the history behind it all. Being in a new city makes me want to learn as much as possible about it and curious as to how it became what it is today. Weird, I know, but does anyone else feel that way about a new city?

Luckily we’ve had near perfect (read: less windy) days to make walking through these streets actually fun without the wind blowing your hair into your lip gloss and your skirt flying up. As mentioned in this post, it’s been the perfect time for finally pulling out my true Summer clothes. This skirt was the perfect pop of color for the steely warehouses of the ‘patch, and just stretchy enough for the leisurely 2 hour brunch before our walk :).

We have officially entered the after-glow of Summer in San Francisco. This is the unique time of year where we can finally dust off our shorts and breezy tops and take up residence at the park or by the beach.

While I’m not much of a “trend” person, one thing I’ve really fallen in love with this Summer is the resurgence of 70s style, lacy, Off-the-Shoulder tops. The past few weekends have been ideal for embracing this type of look. And, I have to say, I’m looking forward to the transition of the 70s style into this Fall as we pull out our suede skirts, fringe tops, and chunkier heels.

A DC Adventure – Part II

Outfit Details: Top // Shorts (similar)// Sandals (old)// Sunglasses// Watch

Today, I’m excited to share with you the rest of our incredible trip to DC!

Keeping pace with the start of our short trip, we ran through the rest of our checklist at lightning speed.

Our Saturday evening started with dinner at DBGB in the city center. This was by far my favorite meal of the entire trip and the atmosphere was just perfect – energetic yet still romantic. I loved that the restaurant was in the City Center because that area reminds me of a little piece of San Francisco right in the middle of DC.

Loved the changing backdrop in the City Center courtyard (via Instagram)

Following dinner we changed into more comfortable clothes and took off on a night tour of the monuments. We walked all the way from our hotel in Georgetown to the White House, Washington Monument, World War II Memorial, and finally the Lincoln Memorial (and of course everywhere in between).

The Eisenhower Executive Office Building – Again this architecture is on point!
The Washington Monument – A shining beacon in the middle of DC.

Great quote in the World War II memorial. I think they were on to something ;).
The amazing Lincoln Memorial
Visiting the Lincoln Memorial was the thing I looked forward to the most because he is my personal favorite president for many reasons, and we just so happen to share the same birthday!
I’m so glad we opted for viewing these monuments late at night because we were able to get quiet, uninterrupted views. The gravity of these installations seemed to weigh even more heavily at night. We must have sat on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial for over an hour hanging out and taking in the view of the Washington monument over the Reflecting pool.

On my final day in DC, we packed in even more museums, this time opting for The International Spy Museum, the Smithsonian American History museum, and the Aerospace Museum. Each spot was incredible in it’s own way, but I have to say that The Spy Museum was definitely the most fun. Let’s just say, if you’ve had aspirations of being a “Bond Girl” (like me), you will have hours of entertainment in this museum.

Finally, the trip wouldn’t been complete without a stop at DuPont Circle. We grabbed spots on the patio outside of DuPont bar and enjoyed what must have been one of the prettiest days in DC all year.

The fountain at DuPont Cirlce
Visiting DC reminded me of how important it is to take every opportunity to travel and gain deepened appreciation for the world around you. The more I travel, the more I realize this little Oklahoma girl has so much more to learn about this world, and I’m incredibly grateful for that.

Now to plan our next trip – any suggestions on where to go?!

Like many women, I have a love/hate relationship with swimsuit season. Finding the right swimsuit for your body is one of the hardest (shopping ;)) decisions a woman has to make – I don’t care who you are!

As women, most of us inherently have our own insecurities that can make swimsuit shopping painful. But, NEWS ALERT, the funny thing about our insecurities is that we’re really the only person who cares about them. Only we as individuals will stand in front of the mirror for hours and notice the one thing we feel is wrong that is completely and totally unremarkable to anyone else. We waste so much time picking and prodding on these little things, that could be better spent enjoying a nice glass of Summer Water out by the beach.

While it may sound silly/cliche, you never know how many Summers you will get in life, so you might as well make the most of each day and look cute while doing it of course! Here are some of my absolute favorite suits to do just that.

p.s. I have been obsessed with number 4 for the whole Summer now. I love the criss cross straps in the back and I’m CONVINCED that it must do wonders for your butt!

xo,
Alex
